On Thursday, in a statement Nokia named Nishant Batra as its chief strategy and technology officer. Batra will also be joining the company’s leadership team from January 18.
Batra is currently the CTO at Veoneer, an auto technology group, and has previously worked for more than a decade at Ericsson; he will initially be based out of Finland and then move to the United States. He has been Veoneer’s CTO since 2018.
“The telecommunications industry is an exciting place to be at the moment with 5G now really taking off, and Nokia is right at the heart of it,” said Batra in a statement.
The development comes in the wake of Marcus Weldon, Nokia’s previous CTO, stepping down late last month. After its new structure under Pekka Lundmark, Nokia has seen many senior executives quitting the company.
Lundmark’s new operating model will be operational from January 1, 2021.
Nokia will now have 11 members in its board, down from 17 earlier.
