Turkey aims to ratify Paris climate agreement before November COP 26

In a statement Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said, the Paris climate agreement would be presented to the Turkish parliament for approval next month.

If Turkey ratifies the deal, it would make it the last G20 country to do so.

“Following the distance covered in this framework, I want to announce the decision we have taken to the world from here,” said Erdogan. “We plan to present the Paris climate agreement to our parliament’s approval next month in line with constructive steps that will be taken”.

He went on to add, Turkey aims to complete the approval process before the UN climate conference in November.

Wildfires in Turkey have devasted tens of thousands of hectares of forests in the Southwest this summer and have killed 8 people. The fires were closely followed by floods that killed 77 people in the north.
