In a statement, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer told the BBC that Washington is aiming to seal a mini-trade deal with the U.K. which will see a reduction of trade tariffs.
Hopefully, punitive tariffs on Scottish whisky could be lowered in the event of a mini-trade deal, said Lighthizer to the BBC.
He also suggested that the United Kingdom will need to go further than last week’s announcement breaking with the EU’s support of European plane maker Airbus.
Britain is set to suspend retaliatory tariffs imposed on U.S. goods as part of a dispute on aircraft subsidies with effect from January 1, 2021, marking the first step to diverging from European Union trade policy.
