In a significant development the Air Forces of Russia and China conducted a joint aerial patrol over the Sea of Japan, East China Sea and the Western Pacific.
In a statement China’s Defense Ministry said, the patrol was part of an annual military exercise.
Both countries had held similar patrols in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The development comes at a time when Russia is facing strong headwinds in the form of Western sanctions over its February 24 invasion of Ukraine, which it has termed as a “special military operation”.
China has not condemned the Russian action and has urged for a negotiated solution.
