In a statement German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, he expects clear steps from Russia to de-escalate a potential conflict with Ukraine, saying Germany and its Western allies are prepared for serious dialogue with Russia over European security.
“We are ready for a serious dialogue with Russia on European security issues,” said Scholz after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Scholz also announced new credit of $170 million (150 million euros) from Germany to Ukraine saying the West was ready to impose “very far-reaching and effective sanctions” if Russia violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
