Deutsche Lufthansa to make non-binding bid for Thomas Cook’s Condor

Although Lufthansa’s bid includes an option to purchase the remaining airlines of Thomas Cook, Carsten Spohr, Lufthansa’s CEO however stated, it is unlikely that this will be allowed given antitrust regulations.

On Tuesday, Lufthansa’s Chief Executive Officer, Carsten Spohr stated, Germany’s biggest airline Deutsche Lufthansa will make a non-binding bid for Thomas Cook’s Condor; its bid will include keeping an option open for acquiring the remaining airlines of the British group.

“We decided yesterday in the meeting of the management board to bid for all of Condor with the option to be able to extend this (bid) to all Thomas Cook airlines,” said Spohr on the sidelines of Lufthansa’s annual general meeting.

He went on to add, it is unlikely that a single buyer will be allowed to purchase all of Thomas Cook airlines due to antitrust regulations.
