With battery technology being central to electric cars, Germany is exploring ways to boost the industry by supporting and exempting it from certain energy levies.
On Tuesday, Germany’s Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said, the government is willing to support battery makers of electric vehicles with one suggestion being they could be exempted from some energy levies.
Altmaier made the statement at an industry event.
As per Altmaier, battery production for electric cars is not necessarily limited to carmakers, per say and called for a guarantee for future manufacturers of battery cells.
A possible way forward, Altmaier opined could be to exempt the batteries’ energy-intensive production from some electricity charges.
He went on to add, Germany will soon have to decide on a strategy to support battery production since it is essential for electric vehicles and could set the ground work for future technological revolution for mobility and transportation.
