Ericsson sues Wiko over patent infringement issues

Ericsson has alleged that Wiko infringed on several of its patents for several years depite negotiations from 2013.

Swedish mobile gear maker Ericsson has dragged French-Chinese smartphone maker Wiko to court in Germany over patent infringements.

On Thursday, Ericsson stated Wiko had infringed upon several of its patents for several years without any licence or compensation, despite negotiations since 2013.

Headquartered in France, Wiko is company controlled by China’s Tinno Mobile.

Ericsson disclosed it was suing the company in the courts of Duesseldorf and Mannheim for infringement of patents essential for 2G, 3G and 4G cellular technology, as well as the implementation of these patents.

Ericsson has also sued China’s TCL over royalty rates.

Ericsson’s intellectual property portfolio (IRP), includes more than 42,000 patents worldwide, covers 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE technologies. The gross annual yield from these patents come to $867 million (7 billion crowns) annually.
