In a statement the World Health Organization (WHO) said, earlier this week its members had agreed to gradually raise their mandatory fees starting from 2024, as part of a funding review which is seen as being very important the agency’s future.
“There’s a basic agreement and there is a timeline and conditions,” said a source. “It’s a very good day for global health”.
The agreement, in the form of a recommendation will need to be formally approved by governments at the World Health Assembly next month. The WHO did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
