In a statement the Kremlin said, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ratified treaties of friendship with two Ukrainian breakaway republics.
The move will now allow Moscow to deploy troops, build military bases, and boost economic integration.
The development comes midst a crisis over a Russian military buildup on Moscow’s border with Ukraine which has fuelled fears of an invasion, which Russia denies.
