US approves $100M sale of military equipment and services for Taiwan

In a statement the Pentagon said, it has approved a potential sale of military equipment and services worth $100 million to Taiwan to “sustain, maintain, and improve” its defense systems.

In a statement, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency said, it had delivered the required certification notifying Congress following an prooval from the State Department approving for the sale, which was requested by Taiwan,

“This proposed sale serves U.S. national, economic, and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability,” said the agency.

The primary contractors for the weapons sales are Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin.

In a statement Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said it “highly welcomed” the decision.

“In the face of China’s continued military expansion and provocative actions, our country will maintain its national security with a solid defense, and continue to deepen the close security partnership between Taiwan and the United States,” said Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry.

A belligerent China has made absurd claims to regions with all of its neighbors and has even made claims on Vladivostok, with which it does not share any border.
