US gave $200M in additional defensive security assistance to Ukraine

On Wednesday, in a statement a senior official from the US State Department said, the U.S. government had approved $200 million in additional defensive security assistance to Ukraine in December 2021.

“We are committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will continue to provide Ukraine the support it needs,” said the official who is traveling with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

On Wednesday, Blinken arrived in Ukraine midst concerns from Kyiv and its Western allies over thousands of Russian troops amassing at its border.

Russia had repeatedly denied plans to launch a new military initiative against Ukraine. During his visit, Blinken is set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba later today.
