In a significant development, international banks in the UAE, including Deutsche Bank AG, Societe Generale SA, JPMorgan Chase & Co, are changing their work days from Monday to Friday.
The move aligns working hours of international banks with those of most global markets.
The development will be effective from January 3.
Wall Street-based JPMorgan said, it is adapting the practice in the UAE, along with flexible practices which allows for a break for Muslim prayers on Fridays.
In a statement the spokesperson for France-based Societe Generale said, it is implementing a Saturday-Sunday weekend from January 2 in its Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices.
Private companies are free to choose their own working week in Gulf state.
In recent years, the UAE has adopted measures to make its economy more attractive to foreign investment and talent at a time when it is increasing its economic rivalry with Saudi Arabia.
