On Saturday, as per a report from the Times, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is weighing options which includes a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics in China to protest China’s record on human rights.
An “active discussion” in government is ongoing, with Foreign Minister Liz Truss said to be in favour of the boycott, states the report.
Under one option, while British ministers would not attend the Games, Britain’s ambassador to China would.
Five Conservative lawmakers have written to Johnson urging him to ban official UK diplomatic presence at Winter Olympics in February 2022.
US President Joe Biden has confirmed that the United States is considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics games.
