European Court of Justice upholds partial ban on Bayer’s pesticides linked to death of bees

In a landmark ruling on Thursday, the European Union’s top court upheld the EU’s partial ban on three insecticides linked to harming of bees, thus extending their usage on certain crops.

Dismissing an appeal by Bayer, the European Court of Justice upheld a 2018 decision by a lower court and backed the EU-wide ban of Bayer’s pesticides.

EU’s top court ruling covers three active substances – clothianidin developed by Takeda Chemical Industries, imidacloprid developed by Bayer CropScience and Bayer CropScience, and Syngenta’s thiamethoxam.
