According to a report from Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the matter at hand as saying, in recent months Twitter Inc had held discussions to acquire Clubhouse for $4 billion valuation.
Discussions are no longer ongoing, and it is not clear why they have stalled, states the report.
Twitter declined comment.
Clubhouse did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
Invite-only audio chat Clubhouse allows people to discuss varied topics in audio chatrooms. In recent weeks, it reported 10 million weekly active users.
The social media app saw its popularity surge after appearances by Elon Musk and other tech entrepreneurs, with more people joining it during the COVID-19 pandemic. Incidentally, Twitter also has its own live audio feature called Spaces, which it aims to make available for all users later this month.
