In a statement, Ursula von der Leyen, the Chief Commissioner of the European Union, said, Europe was the biggest vaccine exporter in the world and challenged other COVID-19 producers to match its exports.
After Britain introduced a vaccine exports monitoring mechanism, the EU criticized the move and accused vaccine-makers in Britain of “vaccine nationalism” saying vaccine makers should oblige with their contractual obligations with the EU, especially AstraZeneca.
“Europe is the region that exports most vaccines worldwide. We invite others to match our openness,” said Ursula von der Leyen after a meeting of EU leaders.
Since December 1, 2020, the EU has exported 77 million doses of vaccines, said Von der Leyen while adding, she was not aware of any vaccine exports from Britain.
