In a statement, Stellantis, the world’s fourth-largest carmaker said, it has shelved a plan to launch the Peugeot brand in the United States.
Instead it will focus on high-margin Jeeps, RAM pickup trucks, Fiat Chrysler’s (FCA) other brands including Chrysler, Dodge, and Alfa Romeo.
The United States is the world’s second-biggest auto market.
Earlier this year in January, Stellantis NV was created following the merger of FCA and Peugeot maker PSA.
According to analysts and industry experts, PSA’s plans to launch the Peugeot brand in the U.S. would be abandoned by Stellantis given the strength of FCA’s most profitable models there.
