Elon Musk’s SpaceX is building a new factory in Texas for its satellite-based broadband service Starlink.
Musk is heading several futuristic companies, including electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc, neurotechnology company Neuralink, and Boring Co. In December 2020, Musk moved to the Lone Star State from California to focus on Tesla’s new plant in the state as well as on his SpaceX venture.
On Tuesday Musk had tweeted, “Creating the city of Starbase, Texas,” without any further elaborations.
SpaceX did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
According to a job posting for a Starlink engineer, it was breaking ground on a “new, state-of-the-art” manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas to keep up with global demand.
Musk’s Starlink venture, revolves around a network of satellites in low-earth orbit, which beam internet services to any location on the planet at high speed.
Earlier Musk had said, Starlink will bring in much needed cash to fund his broader plans of developing the Starship rocket to fly paying customers to the moon and eventually try to colonize Mars.
