China appeals to reset U.S.-China relations

In a significant development that underscores the fact that the previous Administration efforts aimed at countering China’s exploitive trade practices have indeed hit their targets, senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi has called on the Biden Administration to reopen dialogue with China hoping it can once again go back to its one-sided trade practice which enables it to tap easy U.S. funds, steal U.S. intellectual property and benefit from open ended Western systems and economy while it keeps its own economy, financial institutions, markets and the movement of information under its iron grip.

Wang, a Chinese state councilor is also China’s foreign minister. He has called on Washington to remove punitive tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration on Chinese goods.

He also called on Washington to stop interfering in Beijing’s internal affairs, thus essentially saying that Washington should look away while it continues to hold millions of people, including Uighurs, in modern concentration camps for commercial benefits which include organ harvesting.

He also asked Washington to stop “conniving” with separatist forces for Taiwan’s independence.

“Over the past few years, the United States basically cut off bilateral dialogue at all levels,” said Wang in prepared remarks translated into English. “We stand ready to have candid communication with the U.S. side, and engage in dialogues aimed at solving problems.”

The comments come at a time when bilateral relationship between the two country’s are lowest in decades.

Washinton has taken on China’s aggression vis-à-vis trade practices, intellectual property, human rights violations, and territorial claims including those in the resources-rich South China Sea.

While the Biden administration has made some noises with regard to Beijing’s genocide of its Muslim minorities, it has signalled it will continue to maintain trade pressures on Beijing.

Biden has voiced concern on Beijing’s “coercive and unfair” trade practices and has endorsed the Trump Administration’s determination that under Xi Jinping China has committed genocide against Muslim minorities in Xinjiang.
