According to a report from The Edge Weekly, German sports car maker Porsche AG is setting up an assembly plant in Malaysia under a partnership with Sime Darby Bhd’s automotive business.
The report citing sources said, the luxury car maker will be partnering Inokom Corporation, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Motors.
Inokom will be constructing a new plant, in the north of Peninsular Malaysia, specifically for Porsche in Kedah.
The value of the investment could not be ascertained.
According to one of the sources, Porsche was making Malaysia its Southeast Asian hub; Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance has approved incentives for the investment.
According to another source, a number of large investments are being sunk into Malaysia’s automotive sector.
