EU member states empowered to non-EU passengers from entering country, part of German proposal to contain COVID-19

On Thursday, according to a report from the Times newspaper, a German proposal could see European governments allowing a ban on all UK residents from entering their respective countries along with cutting off all passenger transport links with Britain.

The measure, part of a framework to deal with the coronavirus induced COVID-19 pandemic, could see EU member states imposing temporary bans on entry of passengers from non-EU countries with virus variant areas, according to a German draft proposal.

In a separate development, diplomatic sources have also stated, the EU is prepared to ease post-Brexit border friction with Britain, if it drops its plan to create a “Singapore on the Thames”.
