On Thursday, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry said, Beijing will suspend direct flights to and from the United Kingdom until further notice. The announcement comes over fears of a new strain of the coronavirus spreading across the UK.
“After much consideration, China has decided to take reference from other countries and suspend flights to and from UK,” said Wang to reporters at a daily briefing. “China will closely monitor relevant developments and dynamically adjust control measures depending on the situation”.
According to aviation data provider Variflight, currently there are eight weekly flights from the United Kingdom to mainland China, including one each by China Southern Airlines, Air China, and China Eastern Airlines. British Airways operates two flights a week from London to Shanghai.
