On Tuesday, Beyond Meat Inc launched a plant-based minced pork in China. The Los Angeles-based producer of plant-based alternative meat substitute is seeking to tap growing demand for its products in the lucrative Chinese market.
In a statement Beyond Meat said, Beyond Pork, it latest product, will be available at five popular restaurants in Shanghai.
China, the world’s biggest consumer of poek, is facing food security issues with the coronavirus outbreak impacting the supply of pork from international markets.
Earlier this year in June, Beyond Meat had said it would begin retail sales of its plant-based burger patties in mainland China through Freshippo markets, a unit of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
Beyond Meat, whose shares have surged over 60% since their market debut a year ago, has emerged as a top supplier to fast-food chains rushing to get vegetarian products on their menus.
Beyond Meat’s peer, Impossible Foods had launched its plant-based beef burgers across grocery stores in Singapore and Hong Kong and is currently awaiting regulatory approval from Chinese regulators.
