Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd soar after Intel apparent retreat from manufacturing its chips

On Monday, with news of U.S. chipmaker Intel Corp signalling that it may stop manufacturing semiconductors of its own chips, shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) soared by nearly 10%.

TSMC is the world’s biggest contract chipmaker.

The news also saw shares of Intel’s rivals, including shares of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) touch new heights.
