On Sunday, according to a report from the Mail, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to overhaul the United Kingdom’s treason laws.
The development comes at a time of increased activity by foreign agents in the country with many lawmakers feeling the need to suitably update the law to the digital era.
Johnson’s overhaul will see a new Treason Act, a new Espionage Act for tracking foreign agents and a rewriting of the Official Secrets Act, said the report citing Downing Street sources.
The development is the biggest shakeup of the treason laws since 1695, said sources saying it is required to counter the growing threats posed by foreign agents, including those from China and Russia.
