Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida sticks to performance-linked policy promise

On Monday, Nissan Motor Co’s CEO Makoto Uchida told shareholders, he will stick to his pledge to step down from the helm of the company if he fails to deliver on his turnaround plan.

“At the last extraordinary shareholders meeting … I said that if Nissan’s performance does not improve, please fire me,” Uchida had told shareholders at the company’s general meeting. “This policy remains unchanged.”

In December 2019, Uchida took over the reins at Nissan.

He addressed shareholders last month following the company’s first annual loss in 11 years.
