U.S. President Donald Trump said, data suggests that the United States has passed the peak on new coronavirus infections and that he would soon announce “new guidelines” for reopening the economy later today on Thursday.
“The battle continues but the data suggests that the nation has passed the peak on new cases,” said Trump during his daily White House news briefing. “While we must remain vigilant, it is clear that our aggressive strategy is working and very strongly working, I might add”.
The coronavirus crisis has ravaged the U.S. economy across industries and sectors, and has resulted in as many as 30,000 deaths because of the pandemic.
Trump is slated to gradually reopen the U.S. economy to business and end lockdown orders that were necessary to fight the spread of the coronavirus disease.
