In a statement, Tesla’s Chief Executive Elon Musk said the company has additional FDA-approved ventilators which it will ship free of costs to hospitals within regions where it has delivery points.
“Device & shipping cost are free. Only requirement is that the vents are needed immediately for patients, not stored in a warehouse. Please me or @Tesla know,” tweeted Musk.
Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comments on the number of ventilators it is willing to offer or how it will prioritize requests.
Across the world government have appealed to automakers and to aerospace companies to either make or procure ventilators along with other medical equipment midst a global pandemic of the Wuhan Coronavirus which has so far infected more than 777,000 people globally and killed more than 37,500.
