Brazil in touch with USTR on surprise U.S. tariffs on Brazilian steel and aluminum

According to a source familiar with Brasil’s reaction to the surprise decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to restore tariffs on Brazilian steel and aluminum, the Brazilian government is in touch with the U.S. Trade Representative’s office and other agencies.

The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity since he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, rejected the U.S. claim that the Brazilian government was manipulating its real currency, while noting that Brazil’s central bank had recently intervened to strengthen and not weaken the real.
