Apple to expand operations in India: Indian Information Technology minister

In a statement, India’s information technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad disclosed, Apple Inc will be expanding its operations in the country. Salcomp, one of Apple’s suppliers, plans on opening a plant near Chennai in southern India.

Salcomp, which makes components for Apple, will be investing $278.67 million (20 billion rupees) over the next five years to make chargers and other components at the plant; the move will create 10,000 jobs, said Prasad.

He went on to add, iPhones manufactured in India will be exported. The export of mobile phones and components from India are expected to touch $1.6 billion for 2019-2020.
