Airbus set to win large orders from Air Arabia

According to two sources familiar with the matter at hand, Airbus is likely to win an order for at least 100 jets from Air Arabia with an announcement likely to happen at the Dubai Airshow next week.

The Emirati budget carrier has been considering the order for up to 120 jets, which would more than double its current fleet of 55 narrowbody aircraft, for more than a year.

Air Arabia, which has held talks with Airbus and Boeing had said it would take a decision by January 2020. It is likely to select Airbus, said two sources.

Airbus declined comment.

Air Arabia did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

The Dubai Airshow runs from November 17 to 21.

Currently, Air Arabia’s fleet is made up of only Airbus A320 family jets, thus if it were to order more Airbus planes it could provide further operational consistency.

Boeing’s 737 MAX jet continue to be grounded following two fatal crashes that killed scores of passangers.
