Boris Johnson’s government aims to end Brexit negotiations by this week: Spectator

It all comes down to whether Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar is open for further negotiations.

According to a report from the Spectator citing a contact in Downing Street, the British government is preparing to end Brexit negotiations by this week.

While Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has made it crystal clear that he does not want to talk, said the report from Spectator, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are unlikely to push the European Union to discuss UK’s offer until Ireland is ready to negotiate.

“There are quite a few people in Paris and Berlin who would like to discuss our offer but Merkel and Macron won’t push (EU’s chief Brexit negotiator) Barnier unless Ireland says it wants to negotiate”, said the contact in the Spectator’s report.
