Britain’s NHS off Limits to any future trade deal with the U.S.

Provisions and pricing of drugs are an issue that has to be tablet especially since there could potentially be a shortfall in case of a cliffhanger Brexit.

According to a report from the Sun newspaper, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has placed Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) off limits in any future potential trade deal with the United States.

“The Prime Minister has asked me to underline that measures affecting the NHS, including service provision and drug pricing, cannot under any circumstances form part of an agreement with the United States,” reads a letter from Johnson’s senior staff.

The letter states, there should be no internal discussion of the issues within the government since Johnson is afraid that the Labour Party could capitalise any suggestion of the NHS being part of a trade deal with the U.S., to its electoral advantage.

In June, U.S President Donald Trump had stated, Britain’s public health service should be on the table in case of a potential trade deal between the two countries following Brexit.

Later however, Trump had backtracked on his comments.
