Although both carmakers are holding exploratory talks on ways to deepen their alliance in the area of autonomous vehicles, taking a stake in rival Daimler is not currently part of its playbook.
On Tuesday, BMW’s Chief Executive Harald Krueger made it clear that the Bavarian carmaker has no plans to take a stake in Daimler.
The clarification comes in the wake of the carmakers continuing to hold exploratory talks on ways and means to deepen cooperation in the area of autonomous vehicles.
Both carmakers are collaborating in the fields of mobility services, joint procurement of components and development of autonomous vehicle technologies.
When asked whether their alliance could include it taking a small stake in Daimler, Krueger replied, “I can rule that out.”
