Germany will tighten security standards before 5G auction in March

Germany will not take a hasty decision vis-a-vis Huawei, said a source.

As per a source from the German government, it is unlikely that the German goverment will take a quick decision on whether to allow emabattled Chinese telecom equipment supplier Huawei to build Germany’s 5G network.

“There will probably not be a quick decision,” said the source.

Huawei continues to face intense scrutiny from countries across the globe for its ties with the Chinese government. Intelligence agencies have said, Huawei is essentially a trojan horse for Chinese intelligence and enable the Chinese state to spy on others. These allegations have been repeatedly denied by Huawei.

The United States has also called on its allies to not use its technology.

In Germany, the auction for next generation 5G mobile network is scheduled to commence sometime in the second week of March.

The country’s economy Minister Peter Altmaier has earlier stated, Germany plans on “tightening the law on the security standards that must be met by telecoms operators bidding to participate in the build-out of next generation 5G telephony networks in Germany”.
