Tesla will use its Gigafactories in Nevada, U.S. and that in China to produce Model Ys. Producing locally to serve domestic consumers will significantly mitigate risks of import tariffs imposed by the United States and China in their trade wars.
As per a leaked from Business Insider which cites a leaked internal document, Tesla Inc has plans to make its pilot small electric SUV, named Model Y, at its Gigafactory 1 plant by June 1, 2020.
Do note, Tesla may change the plans.
Tesla had planned to ramp up the production of the Model y SUVs by 7,000 a week at the plant, located in Nevada, by December 2020; it also aimed to produce 5,000 Model Ys a week at its Gigafactory in China, by February 2021.
Business Insider has quoted a representative from Tesla as saying, “the timelines and information shared here are outdated”.
Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
