Brexit allows Britain to have an independent trade policy. A framework for a trade agreement with the U.S. has already been laid.
Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement saying U.S.-U.K trade could be potentially hit due to Britain’s trade arrangements with the European Union, a statement from the British Prime Minister’s office stated, Britain’s agreement to leave the European Union allows it to sign trade deals with other countries, including the United States.
“The political declaration we have agreed with the EU is very clear we will have an independent trade policy so that the UK can sign trade deals with countries around the world — including with the US,” said a spokeswoman for May’s office.
She went on to add, “We have already been laying the groundwork for an ambitious agreement with the US through our joint working groups, which have met five times so far.”
