Yoshida, was the brains behind many of Sony’s strategic decisions, including its decision to focus on image sensors and smartphones, which have won over investors.
On Friday, Sony Corp stated Kenichiro Yoshida, its Chief Financial Officer, will replace Kazuo Hirai as the company’s CEO, with effect from April 1 2018.
Hirai, who became Sony’s CEO in 2012, will now become its chairman.
Hirai’s 6-year tenure saw Sony cut back and exit from the personal computer and TV market and instead increased its focus on image sensors and smartphones.
Yoshida has been widely credited for being the brain behind the strategic changes that the company has taken which have won over investors.
Sony is set to report record profits for fiscal year 2017-2018.
