Toyota is now checking whether Kobe Steel’s non-aluminum products meet the necessary standards as well.
On Thursday, in what is likely to be a reprieve for embattled Japanese steelmaker Kobe Steel Ltd,
Toyota Motor Corp has confirmed that the aluminum plates supplied by it for some of its vehicles have met safety and durability standards.
Toyota has also stated, it is further working to identify whether the non-aluminum products supplied by Kobe Steel, which are used in its Toyota and Lexus branded vehicles, meet safety and durability standards.
Earlier this month, Kobe Steel has admitted that it had falsified data on product quality and specifications for goods supplied to nearly 500 customers.
The development has acted as a fresh blow to Japan’s reputation as a high-quality manufacturer and has whip lashed global supply chains.
