The development points to the recognition of burgeoning economic opportunities in the region.

On Wednesday, France’s foreign ministry issued a statement which backed the commitments made by U.S. President Donald Trump on maintaining a military presence in Afghanistan.

“France recognizes the importance of this undertaking and remains resolutely engaged in the struggle against terrorism,” reads the statement from the foreign ministry.

The Trump Administration’s decision on continuing U.S. presence in Afghanistan, although goes back on his campaign pledge to quit Afghanistan, it however assumes significance given its strategic geo-economic implications.
