Antitrust regulators in South Korea to put Google’s Android agreement under the loop

Google is facing similar issues in Europe as well. Even if it were to win in one country, it could have a cascading effect on its other similar cases.

In growing signs of trouble for Google, the head of South Korea’s antitrust regulator has stated that the agency will scrutinise Google’s agreements with smartphone manufacturers to see whether they limit the scope of competition in the market.

Without going into specifics, Jeong Jae-chan, the chairman of the South Korea Fair Trade Commission, stated the agency will re-examine anti-competition issues over Google’s policies on the Android platform.

Earlier in August, the agency had said it was looking to check whether Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent had violated South Korean anti-competition laws.

He had however not specified what potential charges could be brought against Google.
