Twitter now allows sharing of 140 second videos

The earlier limit of 30 seconds has been extended to 140 seconds. Happy Tweeting!

Known for its 140 character limit for its tweets, Twitter has now decided to allow its users to tweet videos of upto 140 seconds. It had previously restricted the videos to 30 seconds.

There are exceptions however: according to Twitter, some publishers will be allowed to create videos that are as long as 10 minutes.

In efforts to regain its forward momentum, Twitter has launched a new app for mobiles, ‘Twitter Engage’ which allows users to analyse interactions with their followers.

Incidentally, the new 140 seconds limit on videos applies to Vine also which previously had a restriction of just 6 seconds. Vine is Twitter’s video streaming service.

“Video is becoming increasingly central to the real-time conversations happening on Twitter,” wrote Jeremy Rishel, Twitter Inc’s vice president of engineering, in a blog post.

This news comes in the wake of Twitter reporting that it had acquired Magic Pony Technology, a machine learning startup which specialises in analysing content from images and videos.

With this news hitting the market, Twitter’s shares were saw a marginal rise in early trading, yesterday.
