The “Leave” movement is gaining momentum as the referendum date gets near.
According to a telephone poll conducted by Ipsos MORI 53% of British voters are likely to opt to leave the European Union, in a referendum that is due to take place on June 23, reads a report from the Evening Standard newspaper.
According to a poll conducted by the Evening Standard, 47% of respondents want to remain within the European Union. This is excluding undecided voters.
Ever since Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledged, in 2013, to hold a referendum, this is the first time ever than an Out campaign has come ahead, said the newspaper.
The results mark a significant turnaround since a May poll by Ipsos MORI found that just 37% preferred to leave the EU against 55% who wanted to stay within the bloc.
Several polls have seen the “Leave” camp inching ahead as the June 23 vote comes closer.
According to an analysis by researchers at JPMorgan, yesterday, the “Leave” camp has taken the lead.
