Accenture announced on Tuesday that it would double the number of staff members at the IT consulting company who work with cutting-edge technology by investing $3 billion over the course of three years in its data and AI practise.
The company, which provides consulting and support to numerous clients on generative AI projects, claimed that when it employs, acquires other businesses, and trains more staff, it would have 80,000 people working on AI.
Accenture noted that the investment was meant to benefit businesses in 19 different industries but did not specify when it would reach that number.
The company’s action highlights a rush by businesses to enhance their products with generative AI, a technology that companies like Microsoft and Alphabet claim could transform numerous industries.
On Monday, Salesforce announced an AI Cloud service in an effort to draw businesses by grouping all of its AI-powered products under one roof and increasing its venture capital fund for generative AI startups by 50% to $500 million.
Accenture’s AI investment comes after it opted to axe 19,000 positions in March due to a slowdown brought on by high inflation and rising interest rates.
It also unveiled a tool called “AI Navigator for Enterprise” that, according to the company, will assist in advising firms on how to make the most of the technology.
