Chinese President Xi Jinping unlikely to attend COP26: The Times

As per a report from The Times, Chinese President Xi Jinping is unlikely to attend the crucial climate conference in Scotland.

Britain, which is hosting the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties, also known as COP26, in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12, wants major economies to support the global pact in an effort to tackle climate change.

“It is now pretty clear that Xi is not going to turn up and the PM has been told that,” reads a report from The Times citing an anonymous source.

“What we don’t know is what stance the Chinese are going to take.”

British organisers opine, Xi’s decision to stay away from the important global conference could be a prelude to China refusing to set new climate change goals midst an energy crunch.

China is likely to continue funding dirty polluting coal powered power plants.
