German antitrust regulator Federal Cartel Office launches investigations against Amazon.com Inc

On Tuesday, Germany’s antitrust watchdog said it has launched a new investigation into whether U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc is exploiting its market dominance.

“In a first step, we are looking at whether Amazon is of outstanding, cross-market importance for competition,” said the Federal Cartel Office in a statement.

Should the Federal Cartel Office find that such a marketing position exists, it could use EU’s new rules for digital companies to prohibit any anti-competitive behavior at an earlier stage.
