Chinese airlines report $4.8 billion loss in first quarter

On Wednesday, China’s aviation regulator reported, Chinese airlines have reported a total loss of $4.8 billion (33.62 billion yuan) during the first quarter with the coronavirus pandemic having a deep impact on travel demand.

In FebruaryChinese airlines suffered a record loss of 20.96 billion yuan since large parts of the country was under lockdown midst efforts to curb the footprint of the coronavirus.

In March, the total number of passengers fell by 71.7% compared to a year earlier to 15.13 million, said Xiong Jie, an official with Civil Aviation Administration of China during a press conference.
