On Thursday, the Global Times, published by China’s People’s Daily newspaper of the country’s ruling Communist Party said, Beijing is weighing the option of using a disaster-related clause in the Phase-1 trade deal with the United States following the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The official number of death disclosed by China is more than 500; more than tens of thousands have been infected by it, said the Global Times report.
According to The Global Times report, which cites an anonymous Chinese trade expert close to the government, as saying a decision on launching consultations with the United States on the disaster clause is likely to start after the first quarter.
