U.S.-UK trade deal in the offing

Boris Johnson’s no-deal Brexit stance is pretty obvious to observers. His confidence that the British economy will survive a cliffhanger Brexit probably stems from his hope of clinching a free trade deal with the U.S.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed Brexit following a phone call earlier on Monday during which they discussed a U.S.-UK free trade agreement.

“Great discussion with Prime Minister @BorisJohnson today. We talked about Brexit and how we can move rapidly on a US-UK free trade deal. I look forward to meeting with Boris this weekend, at the @G7, in France!” tweeted Trump.

According to a spokesman for Johnson’s office, the two leaders “discussed economic issues and our trading relationship, and the Prime Minister updated the President on Brexit. The leaders looked forward to seeing each other at the Summit this weekend.”
